Code of Conduct for the 5th SSEA
The 5th Symposium on Space Educational Activities (SSEA) is committed to fostering an open, respectful, diversive, and inclusive environment that supports the free exchange of ideas, respectful scientific discussion, and meaningful engagement with the broader space community. As part of the Technical University of Munich and representing ESA Academy, we uphold the highest standards of honesty, responsibility, fairness and scientific integrity. This Code of Conduct reflects the values and guidelines of the ESA Academy.
The SSEA is committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful experience for all participants. Therefore, we have a Zero Tolerance Policy regarding inappropriate behavior and harassment.
Examples of such behavior include:
- Disrupting or anti-social behavior.
- Offensive comments related to gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), politics, fashion and technology choices, or any other personal characteristics.
- Bullying, intimidation, personal attacks, sustained disruption of talks or other events, and behavior that interferes with another’s full participation.
- Stalking, following, harassing or nonconsensual photography or recording, inappropriate physical contact, unwelcome sexual attention, public vulgar exchanges, sexualization and diminutive characterizations.
We expect all participants, including attendees, speakers, organizers, reviewers, sponsors, and volunteers to adhere to this Code of Conduct.
This Code of Conduct applies to the actual meeting sites of the symposium and symposium-sponsored social events, including both physical and virtual interaction. While the SSEA is not responsible for non-sponsored activity on non sanctioned spaces, both physical and virtual, the SSEA will follow up on issues of harassment and violations of the Code of Conduct related to the SSEA program or during the SSEA, if they are brought to our attention.
Participants who are asked by any member of the community to stop inappropriate behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in such behavior, the Symposium organizers may take any action they deem appropriate. Such actions may include: a formal or informal warning, expulsion from the Symposium with no refund, barring from participation in future Symposiums or their organization, reporting the incident to the offender’s local institution or funding agencies, or reporting the incident to local law enforcement.
If you have concerns related to your experience at the Symposium, or observe someone else’s difficulties, please don’t hesitate to contact the Awareness Team. Symposium volunteers will also have this contact information and can assist with connecting you to the Team.
